The city of Hoquiam is located in Grays Harbor County, WA state ... the city has a population of aprox.
8,700 people.Hoquiam is located just slightly west of the city of
Aberdeen ... both cities are located in the
sheltered marine environment of Gray's Harbor.
Hoquiam was incorporated in 1890 ... it's name comes from a Native-American
word meaning "hungry for wood" - named from the large amount of driftwood found
at the mouth of the Hoquiam River.
Hoquiam has a long history tied to the Forestry/Lumber industry ... every
September the city hosts the annual "Logger's Playday" that features a parade
and logging competitions such as axe-throwing and tree-climbing.

area's history.
